Creating a bright and inspiring research environment

When planning its new headquarters, the DZNE research centre went for a building that would reflect its ground-breaking research and provide a healthy indoor climate.

Two atriums form the centrepieces of the building and flood the premises with natural daylight and fresh air, while offering an inspirational framework for the researchers.
The architects chose the VELUX modular skylight solution for its high quality and elegant design.

  • One of the atriums uses VELUX Longlights in a traditional configuration to provide daylight to the area below.
  • The other atrium is inspired by the hull of a ship, and the Ridgelight solution at 5° with beams is shaped to bring the oval ship-like design to life.
  • Ventilation and smoke venting units are totally integrated and hidden from view, creating a seamless minimalistic expression.

The high-performing building is a landmark on campus and creates a sense of pride among DZNE employees.

Light is one of the main tools of an architect. It's one of the things that makes the difference between an idea and a piece of architecture.
